Medicare and Tricare Supplement Insurances

Medicare Supplements

The Medicare supplement insurances are specialized in that they are approved by Medicare and have to meet certain requirements in their coverage programs.  They will generally cover any Medicare allowed deductible and coinsurance amounts.  That means that if Medicare does not allow a charge they are not obligated to pay any amounts to the provider.  If the patient has been made aware that the service is not allowed by Medicare prior to receiving the service then they are liable for the balance.  Medicare supplements have different plans and cover anywhere from every  Medicare patient deductibles and coinsurance to having the patient responsible for the yearly outpatient deductible and/or Inpatient Deductible.   To Find out more on Medicare Supplements or Medigap coverage go the Medicare site.

Tricare Supplements

Tricare supplements are similar to Medicare supplements in that they are approved by Tricare and must meet minimum standards.  For instance, covering the allowed balances of deductibles and cost-shares.  Tricare supplements are usually only purchase by clients who have Retired Tricare Benefits as the patient is responsible for 25% of the allowed charges.  The Tricare supplement may be rolled over to a Medicare supplement once the patient qualifies.  You can find some general information about Tricare and Tricare Supplement coverage by going to the Tricare Supplement website.
